Create SORA applications digitally

wingman is a web-based software application that helps you understand the risk of your planned drone flight, plan risk-mitigating measures, and meet the legal requirements for approval. It's especially well suited to risk analysis for flights in the Specific category (SORA): simply upload your flight plan and wingman automatically determines your flight's ground and air risk, then guides you intuitively through every step of the SORA. At the end, you can export the SORA report and attach it to your application for the authority.

wingman lets you meet the legal requirements for flights in the Specific category (SORA) much faster and with far less effort – making it easy to carry out flights beyond visual line of sight, above 120 meters, or carrying cargo.

wingman is especially helpful for flights that fall into the Specific category – for example, flights above 120 meters (AGL), flights beyond visual line of sight, or drone operations involving cargo. But it's also useful for flights in the Open category: our interactive map includes more data than official sources currently provide, such as detailed information on relevant ground areas, model aircraft fields, nature reserves, obstacles, and more.

Right now, wingman includes all the data needed for risk analysis within Austria. We're working hard to expand coverage to other European countries.

The free version includes basic features such as drone and document management as well as access to the map – useful for any drone pilot. Specific-category flights generally require a certain amount of technical understanding and the right equipment, depending on the use case, but we've made every effort to make the SORA in wingman as easy to understand and intuitive as possible. So you don't need to be a SORA expert to complete a SORA in wingman. If you ever get stuck, just reach out to our consulting team.

In general, you don't need an operator registration to sign up for wingman. To use wingman for SORAs, however, you do need to provide a registration number. Keep in mind that a valid operator registration is a general requirement for carrying out professional drone flights.

Create a wingman account using your email and a password. You'll then need to verify that email address – just follow the instructions sent to you after creating your account. Once you've logged in for the first time, you can create an organization. Your organization represents your business and should hold a drone operator registration. Alternatively, you can continue as an individual user without creating an organization and use some basic features. For now, though, individual users can't yet be invited into other organizations.

Click your user icon. In the user menu, under "My Account," you can manage your personal account details. Under "My Organization," you can manage all relevant organization data, such as address, company registration number, or drone operator number. You can also add drones (needed for SORA) and equipment there, as well as manage documents like drone pilot licenses, certifications, and insurance documents – so you only need to attach them when creating a SORA later on.

A Specific Operation Risk Analysis is a structured procedure for laying out and explaining the risk of your planned Specific-category flight, along with the corresponding risk-mitigating measures and circumstances. SORA consists of 10 steps, including determining ground and air risk, describing risk-mitigating measures, and defining operational safety objectives. SORA is explained in EASA's Easy Access Rules for Unmanned Aircraft Systems. In our view, though, the procedure is anything but "easy" – which is exactly why we built wingman. wingman offers two basic plan types: monthly and annual. The monthly plan is billed monthly and can be canceled monthly; the annual plan is billed annually and can only be canceled annually. Currently, wingman has just one paid plan with a fixed set of features. Additional plans with expanded features are planned for the future.
