Firmware Updates leicht gemacht bei der DJI Mavic Air 2

Get an overview of current and past DJI Mavic Air 2 firmware updates here.

Overview of the update to 01.01.1300

The last Mavic Air 2 firmware update to v01.01.1200 from December 2022 led to a serious error for some users. The update failed for some users and meant that the Mavic Air 2 could no longer be started and used.

Until now, there has been no remedy for this. Now DJI is finally making amends. The new firmware with the version number 01.01.1300 fixes this error and ensures that you can take off again with your DJI Mavic Air 2. There are a few points to note.

To get your decommissioned Mavic Air 2 ready for use again, you should proceed as follows.

Start your DJI Fly app as usual and wait for the notification for the firmware update of the Mavic Air 2. Perform the update as usual.

If this method does not work and the update fails again, you can use the DJI Assistant 2 software for PC or Mac.

If this does not work either, DJI has published a small tool especially for the current Mavic Air 2 start-up problem.

DJI Upgrade Tool

The DJI Upgrade Tool offered by a DJI Admin in the forum is intended for emergencies and should only be used if the update to 01.01.1300 fails via the two methods described above.

You can find the download under the link below. But beware, we take no responsibility for the tool! https://pan-sec.djicorp.com/s/WMWTK94NEpgKQJH

Proceed as follows with the tool:

  1. Use a Windows computer to download the tool. As there is currently only one .exe file, Mac OS is not currently served.
  2. After switching on the drone(without switching on the remote control!), wait about one minute before connecting the drone to the PC using the USB cable.
  3. Then run the upgrade_tool.exe. A console window opens and closes automatically.
  4. Now you can use the DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series) as usual to update the firmware of the Mavic Air 2 to V01.01.1300.

It is not known exactly what the tool does. It most likely resets the firmware of the DJI Mavic Air 2 to bypass the error that previously occurred during the update process.

If the update with the DJI Asisstant 2 fails after using the DJI Upgrade Tool, the DJI Fly App can help, as some forum users report.

If you have any further problems, you should contact DJI directly in the corresponding forum thread or ask for help in our forum.

Performing a DJI Mavic Air 2 firmware update

We have already summarised instructions on how you can easily update the firmware of the DJI Mavic Air 2 in a corresponding article – DJI Mavic Air 2 – Performing a firmware update

In the article you will learn about both options for updating the firmware for the Mavic Air 2 and its remote control. Including an official video from DJI itself.

Overview of the update to v01.01.1200

DJI also provides older drone models with updates. This has now happened with a Mavic Air 2 firmware update to version v01.01.1200.

However, anyone looking forward to new functions will be disappointed. The patch notes are very brief and only contain unspecified optimisations in terms of user-friendliness and improvements in software quality. As always, only DJI itself knows what this means in detail.

However, owners of the Mavic Air 2 (test) are again recommended to install this update.

Overview of updates v01.01.08.20

DJI is not neglecting older drone models and has released a new firmware update for the DJI Mavic Air 2 (test) and the DJI Air 2S drone at the same time. However, anyone looking forward to new functions will be disappointed. Both updates have the same patch notes and focus exclusively on improving the user experience and software stability in general. For this reason, the installation of the firmware updates is also recommended in this case in order to guarantee error-free operation of the drones.

Overview of the update v01.00.0511

The approximately 180 MB firmware update v01.00.0511 for the DJI Mavic Air 2 (test) brings two changes. The first change concerns the Hyperlapse mode. Speed control(cruise control) has now been added in “Free” mode. This allows the drone to fly forwards independently while you control the camera and the movement of the drone.

The second change adjusts the behaviour when using the return-to-home(RTH) function when the drone is between 5 and 50 metres away from the home point. The drone now returns to the altitude at which it was flying instead of first climbing to the set altitude.

To make use of all the changes, the DJI Fly app must be at least version 1.2.2. While the download for iOS is already available in the Apple Store, the latest Android version must be downloaded separately from the DJI website*.

  • Date: 2020.12.28
  • Aircraft Firmware: v01.00.0511
  • Remote Controller: v02.00.1200
  • DJI Fly App iOS: v1.2.2
  • DJI Fly App Android: v1.2.2

  • Added speed control for “Free” mode in Hyperlapse (requires DJI Fly v1.2.2 or higher for iOS version. Support for Android version will be added later). Be careful when using cruise control.
  • Optimised RTH. If the drone is at a distance of 5 m to 50 m from the home point when RTH is initiated, the drone adjusts its orientation and flies to the home point at the current altitude.

Notes

If the firmware update fails, restart the Mavic Air 2, the remote control and the DJI Fly App or the DJI Assistant 2 for Mavic and try again.

Overview of the update v01.00.0460

The new version 01.00.0460 of the Mavic Air 2 firmware includes an update to make the remote control of the Mavic Air 2 also usable on the DJI Mini 2 (test). DJI is also distributing some optimisations. The complete list of all changes can be found in the following paragraphs.

  • The downward vision system has been optimised by increasing the height limit to 30 m when the drone is only using the downward vision system for positioning.
  • Optimised fan rotation speed logic after switching on to reduce noise and power consumption.
  • Optimised detection and app alarm for unfolded propellers.

If the firmware update fails, restart the Mavic Air 2, the remote control and the DJI Fly App or the DJI Assistant 2 for Mavic and try again.

Possible problems with version 01.00.0460

Some users are complaining in the official DJI forum that they are having problems with their Mavic Air 2 (test) after the update. The drone is said to lose the connection to the remote control after 30-100 metres during flight and fly back again independently using the RTH function. However, the error could also be related to the DJI Fly app in version 1.2.0 and could have been fixed with the new version 1.2.1.

As the current weather conditions in our area do not allow it, we are not yet able to test the new version ourselves during a flight. However, we are continuing to follow the topic in the official DJI forum* and hope to be able to test it ourselves tomorrow.

Overview of the update v01.00.0340

The new firmware version 01.00.0340 for DJI’s MavicAir 2 mainly offers new features in terms of recording. For example, there is now a digital zoom function for certain recording settings and 4k resolution has finally arrived in Hyperlapse mode, which can now also be paused and offers a higher number of waypoints.
