Without the right tool, that means opening multiple data sources, manually merging map material, and sketching and assessing risk areas yourself. wingman's interactive risk map solves exactly that. It combines up-to-date ground and air risk data with your flight plan and shows you the result at a glance — visual, precise, and without switching tools, right inside your SORA process.
The risk map at a glance

See the risk along your flight plan at a glance
The risk map visualizes your flight area in hexagons 100 meters in diameter. Each hexagon represents a specific section of your route — color-coded on a scale that shows how high the risk is in that area.
The result: you spot critical areas instantly, without having to calculate or compare values yourself.
You can choose between two views:
- Ground risk – shows which areas on the ground are especially critical (e.g. densely populated areas, urban structures)
- Air risk – shows the risk situation in the airspace along your route
Both views can be viewed separately or combined.
Turn map layers on flexibly — only what you need
A complete risk analysis often needs more than just ground risk and airspace. The wingman map lets you show or hide additional data layers exactly as needed:
- Obstacles – buildings, masts, towers, and other known structures
- Points of Interest (POIs) – relevant points in your flight area
- Model aircraft flying areas – designated zones your flight plan might intersect
- Glider flying areas – for flight routes that pass near them
- Population density – distinguishes between populated and urban areas on the ground
- Airspaces – the map dynamically adjusts the visualization to your selected flight altitude
Especially when determining the Ground Risk Class (GRC) in the SORA process the population layer makes a big difference: you instantly see whether your route runs over residential areas, industrial zones, or sparsely populated terrain.
Adjust your flight plan directly on the map
If the risk map shows that a section of your route carries high risk, you don't need to leave wingman to make adjustments.
You can reposition your takeoff, landing, and pilot location directly on the map — as long as your mission allows it. Once confirmed, wingman instantly calculates the updated risk class for your adjusted flight plan.
